Where've ya been?

California!!!

We left awhile ago (like a week) and now we're in San Diego...living the high life! haha! We'll be back in Savannah on May 1st, in time to leave baskets of flowers on the front stoop...hee! We've been having a blast and will give a full update when home.

One quick thing...we went to Six Flags Magic Mountain...we went 100 MPH...it was crazy fun!!!!

Nighty night!!!

It's Official!

Yesterday we went out to the DMV and Tag Dept. to get our official Georgia gear. Here's the result...it's kind-of blurry...but you get the point!

Now we just have to switch the "tag" over...only one on the back, interesting! We'll have to get one of those "G" for the GA bulldogs front plates like everyone else has to fit in. Haha! Right! Maybe a Packer one...or where ever Brett's going next. Yeah, does anyone know what's going on with that? We just saw some stuff on ESPN last night, but couldn't hear anything.

Which brings us to last night! We felt like we were at home! We found Tubby's in Thunderbolt and they have Thursday Sunset Parties. There's a live band outside and a DJ inside. We didn't stay too late as the gnats were horrible. Avon Skin-so-soft here we come. But it was fun. And I won a visor! Which Greg thought would hold off the gnats...

That's about it that has been exciting in our lives. Today we're going to wander around and see what kind of trouble we can drudge up.

Have a good Easter weekend ya'll!

We did some stuff...

Saturday night we went and ate at Tubby's down on River St. It's good and not too expensive...plus we wanted to hang out for a bit. After dinner we went to see what all the hub-bub was about Wet Willies...it's a daiquiri bar! There's one called "call-a-cab" and if you have too many of them, like 2, you better call a cab! They have a dance floor too, so now when Greg's in the mood to dance, we have a place to go. haha! Then we went to the Warehouse. There was a 3-man band playing there, and very good. we just had a beverage there and then headed home. Greg was given the run down by a drunken fella on why he didn't make it to the NFL. He was about 4'5" tall and not all there? Sounds good to me.

So Sunday Greg made the call that we'd go to Charleston, the closest Dick's Sporting Goods Store. It was about a 2 hour drive down some 50mph roads. Nothing to horrible, but wish it was quicker! We were at the Citadel Mall, checked that out after purchasing the weights and had a Charley's sandwich. We then attempted to find the Historic District downtown. We think we found it or it may have been Battery area...not really sure. But we did see some neat houses and where we'll move next.

We walked around this boardwalk type area and around the docks I guess you'd call it. There was a huge X ship docked. I think those are the ones where everyone has "Super Star Power". There wasn't much in the shopping venue, mostly residential and some hotels on the end. I'm sure if you knew where to go, it'd be neat! But it was neat viewing all the same. Giant old houses are always neat. So then we got back on the road on a quest to find Fort Sumter. Which apparently, is impossible. Mission was not accomplished. Apparently it takes some research to figure it out or we just didn't know what we were looking for. We did end up at Folly Beach which is a cute little ocean town. Lots of beach rentals, beach front, county beach, eateries...typical cool stuff. And this picture is out on the beach there!

After the beach we headed home and had leftovers for super, ooh, exciting I know! Then hunkered down for the Sopranos and Grey's Anatomy.

Monday, that's today now. We tried to take care of some things. We went out to the DMV, but of course it's closed on Monday. So we're still running around with WI license plates and driver's license! eegads! Then we found the wal-mart superstore. It really isn't too far from our house...not as close as in BD, but close enough. And from there we went to the post office to see about getting into our mailbox. We need a key. They apparently change the locks with new tenants or something, so we have to wait until Thursday I think before we can get in there! Goodness gracious that thing has to be full of garbage! We just found out on saturday how to even get our mail...one little detail they could've told us long ago. Oh well.

Now it's the afternoon...Greg's resting, he caught a cold. They're pounding away upstairs on something. I don't know how he can sleep thru that! Porter's pacing around looking bored and I don't know what to do. I've updated you all on the happenings here. Maybe I'll go veg at the park. Give Porter some dogs to watch play.

Until something exciting happens...Kate

Just about 1 whole week

Well, we've survived almost one whole week on our own in a strange land amongst strange people. Really, amongst tourists! Let's see what we've been up to since we got here...sorry if any repeats from previous post, but I don't think I covered much...

Sunday night for dinner we tried to go to Pirate's House, but it was already 9pm and they stopped serving. So we went down on River St to Tubby's Tank House and everyone had a good meal. After that we went down to Spanky's for one and then back up to Bay St to Churchill's for a couple. Me, Mom and Dad gave up and went home while Randy and Greg did some more goofing around.

Monday: did a lot of organizing, found Target, bought stuff to help organize and unpacked boxes...all the while Greg mutter's "we brought too much stuff". We got a lot done with the help of Mom and Dad too. That night we went to dinner at The Pirate's House, the big haunted place. We had a short wait for a table and had delicious meals. Then we went down to Moon River Brewery for a beer and back home for some sleep.

Tuesday: We decided to give up on the unpacking...we did a little bit in the morning tho. We went and did a Trolley tour for the first half of the day. We parked in the city lot by the visitors center and ate at Whistle Stop Cafe and ate on a old train. That was kind of neat. The food was good too. Then off to the trolley...We saw a lot of stuff, but it was quick driving by. We could get on and off too, so we did that a couple times. Went into St. John's cathedral, huge! (I think I told you this already.) Stopped on River St too. Anyways, after the trolley tour we got back in the vehicle and headed over The Bridge. It's 180 feet up in the sky I believe they said. It's big. Then we headed back and went out to Tybee Island and saw the ocean and did a little shopping, touristy stuff. We came back to our place for a little siesta and then went to dinner at Belford's in the City Market. The bread was awesome. The meals were good too after we figured out something to eat. At first we were nervous 'cause there wasn't much for our bland northern palate...but everything we got was delicious! I had the Pasta Primavera (easy to pick out the veggies), Greg and Dad had the Chicken and broccoli Alfredo (easy to pick out the broccoli) and Mom had the Lemon Pepper Salmon. All excellent. After dinner we went home I think.

Wednesday: we thought we were doing good...thought we were on the ball...boy were we wrong. We tried to go to Lady & Sons for lunch, but it was already full at 11a.m. So we just stopped in the little shop and got some biscuit mix and went on our merry way. We went down to River St. and ate at the Cotton Exchange, which was delicious. I guess then we just came back home and hung out until it was time to take Mom & Dad to the airport. So we did that and then we decided to do some searching. We went down/up/over to the mall areas. Yes, two malls. We just drove around and around and around looking for stuff and anything we could find. We had supper at Moe's, this is a place we discovered last year on our tour of the southeast and Greg has been craving it ever since. I think we were at one in Virginia tho, closer to DC. And then I think we went home again and vegged. Whoohoo! Exciting stuff.

Thursday...we started our work out regimen again! We went down to the park and made it 2 miles, which is what we wanted to do. Walk/jog, yay! We got ready and went to Clary's for lunch. It was deeeelicious. This is also a famous place courtesy of "the book". I had the best chocolate shake, yum. And it's not far from our house. That afternoon we went driving around looking for a sports store, nothing. That night we went for dinner with our pal Jenn that we met in Mexico. She's in town for a nursing convention of some sort, she's a NICU nurse. We went to Huey's, it was good. I had wings, which were HOT. Greg and Jenn were going to get a Poboy, but they put some Famous Olive sauce on it which sounded like a concoction of I don't know what...so Greg got a grilled chicken sandwich and Jenn got a Crab Cake Sandwich, both good. Then we went to Spanky's for a drink and then called it a night!

Friday: a lot of nothing. We finally went to the grocery store and loaded up on the necessities. We went to the Kroger store right by our house and wheeled our grocery cart home like the ghetto kids. It was fun. Teehee! Then we wasted a afternoon waiting for a cable guy that never showed up. Whoopee! After that we went to find some meat. Apparently they don't really know what ground beef/chuck is and is instead coarse ground (like the stuff at Wal-mart, the long noodle looking strands of meat). So we ended up getting some of that and making hamburgers, which were good, our first home cooked meal! yay! We also picked up a couple movies and watch The Ice Harvest. Eh...it had it's funny moments and twist and turns...but another, if you have some time to kill flick. We have King Kong to watch yet too.

Saturday: that's today! What the heck did we do? Did our jogging (I get up and go with Porter right away, so as to not sweat too much, yuck...and I get to watch some lacrosse practice). Then we went off to the mall area of town again in search of sporting goods and little tables! Nothing. Nothing at all. There is no huge Dick's or Scheel's or anything of that sort around here. There's a huge Bass Pro Shop, but we don't need a boat. We went to Jonny Rocket's for lunch and were a little disappointed. They're so keen on getting things out fast, that they don't write things down, nor care when who gets what. I got a grilled chicken sandwich, Greg got a cheeseburger, both good...when we were almost done with the sandwiches I finally got my shake. And we never got our 50/50 split of fries and onion rings. It wasn't on the bill either, so apparently her memory doesn't serve her well. We scoured both malls for whatever we could find, which I found some plate stands, and not at my friendly Hallmark store either. They don't sell them there? Whatever! That's about it! We've been hanging out at home now and surviving our first Georgia Thunderstorm! It poured like crazy and flooded the gutters for awhile, but then that let up and everything was fine. Now it's just been raining...a little thunder here and there. Now we're deciding what to do about supper. Eek, it's almost 7...better figure something out before we fade away to nothing! ha, that's funny. Darn, if that Clary's was open past 4, that'd be yummy! Guess we'll actually make something? oh dear. Ha!

Hope that gets everyone up to our exciting speed. We haven't done too many thrilling things. We're thinking of going to the beach tomorrow if the weather is nice. I need to work on my tan! I only have 2 weeks before California!

Night y'all

We're Alive!

Well, we made it...and we're all in one piece!

Call me Charles Jr, but I went with what he did to journal his trip and here it is for ya'll...

3/31 Friday
39,716 miles (Penske truck) @ 9:37a.m. we left Beaver Dam. Greg's mom was there to see us off after her 3rd to last day at the YMCA! We got on 151 to Madison and holy crap was it windy. The truck would rock back and forth, I felt sea sick and white knuckled it for awhile.

39,766 10:57a.m. What the?!?!? A freaking tire shredded!!! We had to pull over on 39, luckily we were 100 feet from Hwy N exit and were able to get up there and into a truck stop. Penske sent a fix-it dude...while waiting, we were witness' to a hilarious bout of "Semi-loving" (my own term). Ms. Nurse waited for Mr. Trucker for awhile, Mr. Trucker showed up, Ms. Nurse joined him in the truck for a smoke...next thing we knew (the tire guy showed up and he distracted us for awhile) if the truck is a rockin' don't come a knockin' was in full effect! Eeegads. Anyways, had to share the terror with everyone!

12:13pm we're back on the road. We also notice the rocking in the wind isn't as bad either.

40,076 5:28p.m. We docked in Effingham, IL for the night. Hard day of driving for Greg with all the winds and we didn't have far to go tomorrow. We ate at LoneStar and went to TGI Friday's for a beverage and discovered the local bowling alley. 36 lanes of regular joes bowling. The accent may already start down here, but the beautiful bodies, no. Haha!

4/1 Saturday
8:30a.m. We hit the road again...much calmer day and Greg is starting to feel better (from the previous weeks attack of the food poisoning).

40,231 10:44a.m. we hit Kentucky, FINALLY. Illinois is so long and boring.

11:26a.m. we see our first Waffle House and know we're in the South now!

40,324 12:25p.m. Tennessee (and a phone call from Sara).

40,371 1:06p.m. We easily find the Ramada by the coliseum...I go to check in and no pets allowed. Well, what the crud is that? So after hassling with them and hotels.com and driving around looking for nothing, we find a helpful Quality Suites where the owner happens to be there and grants us permission to have Porter at his Best Western Airport Inn. So about 3pm we check in there and about 4pm Randy gets to the hotel via shuttle from the airport via being Greg Sutton to get the shuttle in the first place. Whew. But dangit, we're in Nashvegas baby, nothing can bring us down here!!! We went down to Music Row (taxi!) and ate at Hooters. Checked out Printers Alley and found Lonnie's Karaoke, enjoyed that for a bit, got suckered into Nashville Nites with a bunch of weirdos...Checked out Coyote Ugly of course and went to Wannabe's for a little more karaoke singing. None of us sang, but listened and had a good time. So we were all happily content and silly by 10:30pm and went back to the hotel for the night.

4/2 Sunday
5,569 8:17a.m. I move over to the Durango so Greg and Randy could drive the Penske. We sprang ahead for daylight savings and realize we'll loose another hour when we hit the Georgia border. Ugh. The best quote of the trip, "we're drinking our way to Georgia", says Buzz.

5,693 10:15a.m. Tennessee River (reminds me of Whisky River)

5,720 10:40a.m. Somewhere around here we hit GA! We got onto I75 S and I think that was it. Foggy, wet and feels a little warm out. So it's the time zone change too, so it's really 11:40.

5,806 1:00p.m. (I forget if I added in the time change or not.) We stopped for lunch by Kennesaw State University. Wherever that is. After lunch I drove.

5,901 2:55p.m. First Savannah Sign

5,928 3:15p.m. First Confederate Flag sighting.

6,180 6:00pm We made it!!!

Porter did great the whole time...but now he's a little confused or something. He hasn't really eaten and has to get used to us walking him for his bathroom breaks, not just shoved out the door. So we'll see how that goes. The place is about 75% set up...I'm having some issues with all my kitchen stuff. Ebay sale coming up! It's still a awesome place, but we'll have some getting used to cramped quarters here. Should've sold more at the rummage sale! Haha! We'll figure it out, don't worry. Give us a couple weeks to get everything straight and learn the right roads to go down without running into squares.

My mom and dad leave tomorrow. They were so helpful too. We did a lot on sunday and monday, but kind-of gave up today (tuesday) and they leave tomorrow. But we got A LOT accomplished I think.

It is 10:30 here...Boston Legal is on right now...this is going to take some getting used too also! Shows a hour later, Monday night football lasting until 3 in the morning...maybe not that bad, but that's what it will feel like. Teehee!

Okay, I tried to add pictures and still having issues...I'll get 'em someday!

Nighty night from Georgia!

Birthday Girl

I just wanted to let everyone know Miss Taylor Roedl, freshly turned 6 year old, bowled a 117 today at her Birthday Party at the bowling alley! Yay!

I do have a picture to prove it, but blogger is being testy of course. I'll get it when we're docked in Savannah.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAYLOR!!!

Peace out ya'll!

2nd To Last

It was just our 2nd to last night in town...well, it still is, but Greg's going to bed already, so it's over.

I wasted half the day at the docs office waiting for turtle to copy my file and then we went up nort'. It's only 1/2 hour away, so not really north north...north by north west or something like that. Remember, women tell directions by landmarks. We had a good time...Greg went and finished the taj majal (with assistance from Rick & Steve, yesterday his dad helped too), although he wouldn't take pictures of it...I guess he doesn't want to brag. I'm just kidding! It's just a wooden box with a roof over it! And a staircase, now you know he's living the high life! Meanwhile us gals, Me, Shelly and Mom Sutton, went to Oshkosh to get a couple pictures we had framed. And then we got back and we all went to Headers for some wings and good times. It was Ladies & Karaoke Nite...hot dog! Greg's Dad sang and the whole audience clapped and whistled...well, there were about 10 people there besides us, but that was more of a reaction than what the gal that ran the show got! Impressive! yay!

So here's a couple pictures from the night...

Now kids, we'll be shutting the computer down and just have quick checks at email maybe until monday or tuesday...then we'll be back in action! Have an excellent weekend, enjoy April Fools and stay great!

Until the Georgia Peaches greet us with smiling faces,
Kate & Greg

COUNTDOWN

(thanks Kirk for that great title!)

Yup, game on people, the end is near, the dawn is coming...

What's been going on...Greg first, his update is nice and easy...today he was up at his parents on the hunting grounds working on a new super deeeeluxe hunting stand. Stair case, roof, I think a hot tub too. Other than that he finished work and skipped out whistling Dixie. Yahoo! Greg, what else have you been doing? Eating places with me I guess...oh, and being sick. Food poisoning, flu, cold? A neat mix of everything I guess, hopefully he turns a corner soon and is 100% on friday!

Now me on the other hand, whew!

Last Thursday we did our last Roedl Girl Shopping Extravaganza in Madison. Every December we usually go to Mayfair mall for Taylor's picture with Santa and a little Christmas shopping. This time we had a purpose tho, ourselves and our future trips! Savannah and California! We're all going to Cali in April for a Celebration of Sara and Charles and Tarzan (that's the fetus' name).
So here's a couple pics from that, the little super model (I think Sara taught her that pose actually)

and me and her with the $4 Color Spongebob cookie.(I'm not really drunk)

Thursday night we decided to cruise over to Manchester to have a pizza at the Hitching Post (who knew he had a website).

Friday we went to Oshkosh to Kodiak Jack's, it was delicious! We met Greg's parents there and ate with all the wildlife...really, lots of full body mounts or crazy animals, not just deer. And then we went to the local watering hole back home.

Saturday...the day Greg got sick. I think I got a lot of packing done? It's all a blur during the day. But that night we went and saw Diann's house (sweet fire pit out back!) and went to Snapper Vick's for supper with them (Brett & Diann) and Joe & Lisa. We had to cut that evening a little short due to Greg's illness, we'll make up for it, don't worry!

Sunday: Guess what? More packing! How could you think anything different? And you'll never guess what delicious food was eaten that night! Give up? I myself ate a whole box of cheesy rice-a-roni. MmmMmmm. Exciting stuff.

Monday: The Mine Shaft in Hartford (see previous post) with Mom, Dad and Jane. It was so-so...but a good time. And no, we didn't go up to the $2million game room. That was lunch...we had 2 games of volleyball that night and went to Dos Gringos to patronize our sponsor...so it was margaritas, chips, salsa and cheese dip for supper for me! And I wonder why my belly makes funny noises. haha, it doesn't really...maybe a little.

And that catches us up to Tuesday! I had to go to Mom's house to make someone's birthday present...ran errands with my chauffeur (that'd be my mom). Greg was up working on the taj majal and I wasn't allowed to use the car. I did more packing and I finished the kitchen! Got started on my clothes...whoopeee. And then tonight! Tara, Megan, Angie, Tyler and I went to Dos Gringos for a "last supper". It was delicious of course!

Then I picked up Greg at his brother Steve's...he delivered Steve's purchase, 2004 Grand Prix...and came home, watched Elizabethtown (so-so) and here I am!

And off I go to bed...quit boring you. Tomorrow afternoon we're going north so Greg can finish his stand and then we're all (us, mom, dad, Steve, Rick) are going for some wings! Guess what I'll be doing in the morning? Duh.

It's a Hit

The garage sale was SPECTACULAR! Both of us are very shocked at everything we sold and how much change we took in.

This was all that was left on Sunday...I tried to do a half off sale, which got rid of a few more things. And I was only open for a couple hours...good enough for that! I was so sick of people by then! Origianally the garage was full and the basement was full, I was prepared for that "giant blizzard" we were supposed to get. Sunday I sat out in the sunshine and didn't wear longjohns!

Saturday night Renee & Rick threw us a little going away party at Morry's. It was fun and good to see everyone "one last time".

We've been having our "last meals" all around! Last night was pizza at The Hitching Post up in Manchester. Today I'm having lunch with some ex-Royle associates at Glass Nickel Pizza. Greg's debating over Chili Johns or some gyro. I'm hoping he goes for Chili Johns, Gyro breath is pretty nasty. Tuesday I have a girls dinner at Dos Gringos...Monday I have a lunch with Jane and others over in Hartford at The Mine Shaft. We had wings at The Bar in Oshkosh a couple weeks ago...next week is wings at Headers in Kingston...more to come I'm sure! Out with the old and in the new pretty soon.

Not much else going on...Still trying to recuperate from the garage sale and get the house cleaned up, which is impossible while trying to pack too! Greg's working on the outside while I putz around inside. Hmm, maybe if I just pick up the pace a little bit...teehee!

The countdown is on, 1 week to go! Next friday, the 31st, we'll be leaving Beaver Dam with the Penske truck, Durango and the shirts on our backs. Well, I'm taking a few more shirts...and Porter...and my mom and dad are coming and...

Just Some Blab

Nothing new or important to post. I just got done with work at the Restaurant a bit ago and should be hitting the sack pretty quick for a full day there tomorrow. Blach.

The rummage/moving sale is next week, thurs-sat. I put a lovely ad in the paper...I wonder if it'll be the first one of the season? I forgot to ask. I saw the weather tonight too...not looking too promising, so wear your cuddl duds! haha! I'll also have the first brats of the season too! I will be selling brats and sodas, so if you need lunch, stop on by! And if you're interested in buying or selling anything, stop by wednesday evening or day for a preview sale! I'll be gone in the morning (interested car buyer), but will be home around 10:30...so call first if you're making a morning trip!

Alright, my brain is fried...but I will include this bit of a gem, a real life Simpson's Intro...Hilarious! And then again, nutt-o when you think about real life imitating a cartoon. (Brought to my attention by Charles, and I saw it elsewhere while cruising the blogs.)

Nighty Night!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Here’s a glimpse into our weekend in Savannah on the hunt for a place to live and taking a looksie around!

Friday: we got into Savannah by noon and it was 75 degrees. Glorious! Got the rental car, which they graciously upgraded to a Lincoln Town Car…I think I aged about 30 years just driving that thing around. But it was a nice ride! The Enterprise guy actually gave us some good information and started our journey with that in mind. First stop, hotel, Planters Inn. It’s a great old place with very friendly staff. I’d recommend it to anyone. We had an appointment to view a house that was “completely refurbished”. Right. It was nice, but since the bathrooms scared the bejesus out of me, we politely passed. We took a taxi to this place and she waited for us and from there we went to a realtor/property manager to look at their list and get some keys. Needless to say we couldn’t find half of the places and the other half scared us. We ended up on Wilmington Island to look at one or two and decided to drive around there to look at the other places available. This is like a suburb of Savannah and has a lot of apartment complex type places. We stopped at one that was “THE place to live on the island”…I don’t know what that lady is smoking. Yuck. It would’ve been like living in a hotel. So needless to say Friday was a bust, but at least we got some ideas of the areas and what was all out there.

Friday evening we ate at Spanky’s (the place we had so much fun at last time, see pic in previous post). The food was alright. We had some of their famous chicken fingers and a pizza. Then we stopped at Churchill’s Pub…modeled after an English pub and usually packed. We talked to a bartender there about apartments and she said there’s a bunch every day just popping up and to get the Penny Saver and Connect or Accent papers. After a beverage there we walked back towards the hotel and found a Connect or Accent…one of the two anyways! We stopped at the Planter’s Inn Tavern, which is under The Olde Pink House, which all are supposedly haunted also. We had a beverage there, accomplished not to pass out tired into it and went back to the hotel for a night of sleep.

Saturday morning we got rolling and first on our agenda was to look at a house in the ‘burbs on Norwood Ave. It was an alright house, painted horrendous colors on the inside and beat to crap from the previous renters. But it did have a fenced in yard and lots of space with a garage, so we asked for an application and said we’d keep it in mind. While we were waiting for the guy to come I called a couple places in the paper and got thru to one to make an appointment. So off we went back to town. We got there a little early so we drove around looking for Rent signs and scenery. Then it was time. We met Rhondda at 225 E Bolton and were pleasantly surprised. It was a group of 10 “condos” recently refurbished…the one we were looking at was bought by a couple in New York who someday plan on retiring there. You want your retirement home to be awesome right? Well so did they. We both really liked it and went back to Rhondda’s place (just a few blocks away) and filled out the application and had more discussions. But of course we needed the checkbook and neither one of us brought it along. So we set up a time to come back later and in the meantime we went and got that and monkeyed around. We went out to Oglethorpe mall. It’s huge! Of course like any other mall with all the other crap around it. But we went in the mall and I went into a Verizon store and asked as many questions as I could. So then we walked around and discussed it and ended up leaving the mall with a new cell phone. Nothing fancy of course, no camera and that…just something to blab with! We figured that this made the move written in stone since we now have a Savannah phone number! The Oaks (where the Enterprise car guy lives) and saw a couple of models there and they were halfway normal and decent so we took the information for there and planned on using this as a back-up. We went out to Tybee Island too. This the THE place to go in the summer for the beach. It was a little windy and chilly (around 53) when we were there, but there was lots of beach area and stuff to do! And back to town we went, afterall, we'll have all the time in the world to check things over!

Saturday night we went to eat at The Pirate’s House. It is a very old place, containing the oldest house in Savannah somewhere inside. I couldn’t find it, but it was there! It used to be an old watering hole for sailors, pirates or whatever other seamen…Supposedly Captain Flint died here and may still be haunting the place. But the food was delicious and neat ambiance. It was a bit of a wait to get in, but you’ll have that in a tourist town! There was one gal bartending before dinner and Greg said “they need to find you some help” and she said “they do, but they get scared and quit!” So after dinner Greg decided to fill out an application for a bartending job. After that we went to Churchill’s for one and over to Moon River Brewing, which is another haunted spot. The top 3 floors are unfinished because of the spooks scaring off the help!

Sunday: we drove out to Hilton Head. I believe there is a beach, but we couldn’t find a spot to park really…plus we’ll have all summer to find it! Lots of condos and rental cottages along the ocean so couldn’t see behind all the wood! We saw a lot of shops and Wal-Mart, Target, etc and an outlet type mall along the way there. I believe this Target was the first one in the area and now this past year or two they built one by one of the Savannah malls. Whew! While we’re driving around we were patiently waiting for Rhondda to call us with good or bad news. It was anxious couple of hours, but the waiting paid off and we got the place! Downtown living here we come!

After we left Hilton Head we went back to town and parked the car and decided to walk the rest of the day. We tried to eat at Lady & Sons, but couldn’t get in until 3:45 (which was about 2 or 3 hours later). So we walked over to the City Market and only had to wait 20 minutes to get into Vinnie Van Go-Go’s for some pizza. This is supposedly the local’s favorite. It was good and a fun place, but I said more sauce and Greg said more cheese. But while we were waiting we got to talking to a motorcycle dude…got a little info on that and had a fun conversation. Apparently City Market is where a lot of bikers come and hang out. Which we did witness as we were eating lunch. We decided that maybe a motorcycle would be the best form of transportation for Greg…ride it all year long and cheap! So we’ll have the Durango, motorcycle and my bike. One of those should get us to our destinations! After lunch we walked off to Forsyth Park, which is two blocks from our new digs. We had to drop off a Porter deposit with Rhondda and wanted to take another look. Guess what? Of course this is the time my battery in the camera decides to die. Oh well. So we walked back to the hotel (mind you this isn’t a “short” walk, but scenic and interesting) and Greg took a nap and I went down to River Street and did a little browsing.

7:30p.m. we were off to a Ghost Tour! We did this last time we were in Savannah…it was close to the same, but a little different. The stories were told a little differently and she showed us a few different things. But we both agreed our first tour was a little better…he was an excellent storyteller. After this we headed down to River Street to find something to eat. We planned on eating at Tubby’s Tank House and we did! It was another great round of food. After this we went to Spanky’s for a drink, watched the crazy people and then went back for bed. We were going to stop at the Planters tavern, but it looked like they were trying to close up.

Monday morning, we took one last drive by our new “condo” (it’s an apartment with finer details!) and headed off to the airport!

So here it is, a few pictures of where ya'll will be guests at!
The front, we're the bottom on the end, 225. They're still doing work on the outside (and a few finishing touches on the inside).

This is looking from the front windows to the back.

And this is looking from the back to the front!

Time To Go For A Bit

This weekend we'll be in Savannah...I don't know how much of a vacation it'll be. We'll be looking for an apartment and asking everyone we can about local stuff. Cell phone, cable, satellite, jobs, etc., etc. I better take a thick pad of paper and a couple pens! haha! We'll be back on monday with a full review and hopefully a new address. Hopefully something works out.

Everyone have a good weekend...we'll enjoy the 60+ temps and blue skies and let you know all about them next week!

Kate, Greg and Porter

Porter's last snooze on his couch...the couch is gone, not Porter!

Re-schedule the Garage Sale

Seeing as there's 10 feet of snow on the ground and our first open house was a bust, I'm pushing the garage sale back a week. Now it will be March 16-18. And we're going to have an open house on the 11th. I hope this doesn't screw anyone up! And now you'll have a little more time to prepare. :)

Wednesday March 15th - drop things off and pre-sale by invite only. Just kidding, come if you want! Get a early look at all the goods! I'll be home all day and evening, so come any time!

Why are Women so Picky?

Well, The Wife didn't like it. I don't think she was here for even 15 minutes. Then I found out she's a teacher and needs her "storage space" and they have "several" children. Back up...she's a teacher? They didn't have school on friday...so why did I have to get my butt up at 6:40a.m. for this woman? Anyways, the realtor was in The Restaurant Saturday night and left me a wonderful tip, so it's all good. ;*)

There might be a change in rummage sale plans. I have to check with others involved. I might push it back a week and have a open house on the 11th instead. But if others took off of work or have changed their schedule for it, I'll keep it the same and have a late saturday or sunday open house. Plus maybe if it's pushed back a week the snow will be gone. Haha!

The other day I went through some clothes again. It was a sad day as I FINALLY threw out my favorite sweatshirt. It was one I got during track in High School...I may have gotten it sophmore ('92) or freshman ('91) year...I still have another one from one of those years tho! But I did take this memorial photo for prosperity! I wore that thing out...there were holes around the letters and on the cuffs. But oh man, did it see a lot! High School and College track...7 or 8 years of shin splints and breaking records. Ahhh, memories. Quick, think of your favorite old sweatshirt! My other one is great tho, a nice, thick hooded one that I still wear. If you're doing the math, I graduated in '94 and Greg graduated in '90...we just missed each other!

Ya'll have a good night and enjoy your work week. Neener, neener!

Keep Your Fingers Crossed

Tuesday morning we had our first showing of the house. It went well I guess. The realtor (for the buyer) called afterwards and said they were very impressed and we take good care of the house. Of course I do! Haha! So The Husband had to talk to The Wife (T.H. was the only one with the realtor Tuesday) and they’ll get back to me. Yesterday (Wednesday) the realtor called and T.W. wants to see the house too! Must’ve passed the initial inspection! So Friday morning bright and early at 8a.m. they’re coming again. Yay! So today is full of cleaning, again. Not that I have to do much…I vacuumed, did a little dusting and then just touch up the bathroom & kitchen. Of course tidy up too!

Next weekend (3rd-6th) we go to Savannah to look for apartments. Greg made some calls yesterday to some realtors that deal with rentals to set up some showings. I’m not really sure of all the outcomes…one said to just come in and look at their postings, one is sending a list and the other, I don’t recall! So we’ll have a lot to do when we’re down there. Searching and asking lots of questions. Cell phone service? Jobs? Where to live? Vets? Kennels? Help! Haha!

Here's our last trip to Savannah in a nut-shell. We went to Spanky's, home of the original Chicken Finger, and had a fantastic time! Oops, too fantastic. Teehee!

I got an ipod shuffle. LOVE IT! It actually gets me motivated to go for walks. Plus the weather has been a little nicer. It serves its purpose wonderfully. I also saved $40 by scouring ebay for a few days until I won one, yay! Now for some accessories. USB dock for sure. Right now I have to plug the ipod directly into the USB port on the back of the tower, which is a pain, but luckily I have it on a cart so I can just wheel it out. Whoever invented this thing, two thumbs up!

CAR! We’re selling the Grand Prix. If you know ANYONE looking for a car, let me know! It’s a 2004 GT, 38,000 highway miles, most of the bells and whistles, but no leather. Moon roof/sun roof, whatever those are called, huge trunk, the back seats fold down for an even bigger trunk! The front seat folds down too for a handy table or more room for those 2x4’s. And this baby corners like it’s on rails! Haha! It does drive and handle very nice…the family sports car.

Anything else? Not for now. I’ll let you know how showing #2 went with The Wife. I want all fingers and toes crossed! I’m hoping this house has some crazy voodoo that makes the first lookers buy it…after all, we did!

Bust

Most of you might know, here in the big W-I we got almost a foot of snow from wednesday night until thursday night. Also mixed in with the falling snow was wind and bitter coldness. Brrr.

It goes without saying, no one showed up for the open house. But, at least the house was spotless! I also got a good workout shoveling as seen above. And, we did get one phone call for a showing next week. Plenty of time to clean the house again. Yay.

It's still super cold here...11 maybe if we're lucky. Next week it's supposed to start off in the 20's! Heat wave! Stupid weather. Tack this on as another reason we're getting out of Dodge!

Today I work ALL day at the Restaurant. I get a couple hour break during the slow time this aft, it will be an interesting day!

We have our reasons

Today is the day I start. I’ve been meaning to do this since the world knows we’re leaving town…it’s my own blog, about my own adventures…including Greg of course, but it’s all mine.

People do, of course, ask A LOT of questions about our decisions and everything else that comes along with leaving your home town after 30 (me) and 33 (Greg) years. So here it goes, I will try to explain everything the best I can…what stage we’re at, why we’re doing it and anything that happens along the way. This first entry might be long, but I’ll try to keep 2 months short.

We made the final decision for ourselves after a few months of me looking for my dream job in Anywhere, USA. I had a couple bites, but nothing panned out. Just think, we could be going to Idaho (land of the poh-tay-toe) or Colorado Springs (it actually snows there?). So in December, sometime before Christmas, we decided this question, “why don’t we just go?” We have our reasons, do you want to know? Okay for one, it has nothing to do with YOU. Nobody did or said anything to push us away. Two, it has EVERYTHING to do with US. It’s our decision, our freedom, our life, our choice. We need a change. Oh yeah, Porter wants to go too! He’s not too excited about the humidity in the summer or all the people, but he told me that he’s sick of this cold crap! Haha.

So some other reasons for going you ask? Pretty lame beginning? Alright…On the luckiest day of the year, Friday the 13th (of January this time), my luck changed, the tides turned and someone told me we were making the right decision…

Brrrringgg, Brrrringgg…
“This is Kate.”
“Kate, this is D, can you come see me for a minute?”
“Sure!” tha thump went my heart, quick email to co-worker, ‘D wants to see me?!?’ and down I went.
“Have a seat.”
What the crap is my boss doing here?
“The company has been going through some restructuring and revaluating and due to these things your position is no longer needed…blah, blah, blah…here is a letter that goes over what we just talked about…”
“I’m fired?”
“Not so much fired, your position is just no longer necessary.”
“WHAT?!?!”

And so, with a box full of some of my stuff that my darling boss (note satire here) went to get, I kicked open the doors on my way out, made sure my ass was far enough out when they closed and never looked back. Except for once when I flipped them off with the biggest smile on my face. Okay, that didn’t really happen, but I saw it clear as day in my head! Needless to say, I wasn’t the only one “restructured” and both of us are 150% times better than we were. She has found a new job already and so far, is happy as a lark! Get this, she’s even home before dark! Ha! And me, I am happily collecting unemployment that I have worked 7 long, boring years in the real world to earn. So if that isn’t a “sign” that something’s meant to happen, I don’t know what is.

Why Savannah? Have you ever been there?!?! It’s gorgeous, historic, fun, slow, south, 60 degrees in winter and 10 minutes from the ocean. And the food! Ugh! It’s divine! It’s a huge tourist trap, and everyone is nice to tourists, so we can keep saying we’re tourists if the need arises…but we’ll be sure to go to all the festivals as locals.

Jobs. As of now, we both do not have a job down there. (Except if you talk to Greg’s work, I have a job at Weyerhaeuser.) I’ve seen a couple interesting things that I plan to send resumes on, but also wouldn’t mind some time to get acquainted with my new home. So I’ll keep looking and putting resumes out and play it by ear. We’re not too worried, this unemployment money is treating me well, and so are my lovely customers at the Restaurant.

Okay, I think I have everyone up to speed, yes? What’s happening right now? Well, the house was listed For Sale By Owner last week, we’re having an open house tomorrow night and we’re selling a lot of stuff. The weekend of March 3rd we’re going to Savannah to look for an apartment. Yes, we’re going back to apartment living after all these years. We’re looking for something in the Historic District (downtown) of Savannah and will hopefully find jobs in that area, or on the bus line or something.

I think that covers it so far! Nothing too dramatic happening yet. I’ve packed 3 boxes, went through a lot for the garage sale (March 9th-10th-11th) and we’ve been cleaning and prepping the house for people to walk thru. Oh, when are we leaving? Well, originally it was May, but that was when I still had a job…and then that lucky day hit, so we thought, if we can, we’ll leave around April 1st. No, this isn’t some elaborate April Fools Joke either! We’re packing a 16 foot U-haul (no, not actually a U-haul Mike, that’s just for visual purposes!) and taking the Durango and heading south. The Grand Prix is for sale, Greg’s “muscle car” is for sale and the shovel is free to a good home.

So I will attempt to keep this as updated as possible…let you know how the open house went, any nibbles on the house and how our apartment search went. Other than that, nothing too exciting right now. But once we move down there, I promise to keep it updated! Don’t worry, we plan on getting a two-bedroom apartment, plenty of room for guests. Just don’t come in the summer when the humidity is worse than even Wisconsin! We’ll be back sometime in August for the 100th Anniversary of AA Roedl and then November for Deer hunting/Thanksgiving.

Alright, it's time for bed I think...a night of getting pummeled in Volleyball tires a girl out! Until next time, k
